Clacton Pier
From: £25.00
Clacton Pier was originally opened to the public in 1871 and was just 160 yards long and 4 yards wide. In 1893 the first major alternations took place and it was lengthened to 1180 feet with a theatre and pavilion being built. Around 1922 Ernest Kingsman purchased the pier and set about turning it in to a leisure and entertainment centre. In 1971 it was sold again to Michael Goss who later retired and sold it to local businessmen Francis McGinty, John Treadwell, Denis McGinty and David Howe in 1981 who set about with major plans to redevelop, around 1993 the then operating company went into receivership which is where it remained for around a year. In 1994 the Harrisons brought the pier and set about on a refurbishment programme and later exited the leisure industry selling the pier to the current owners (The Clacton Pier Company) in 2009.
